Avocados of Crete Dickey, Chania, producer prices, Avocado. Additional Information: The tree is sourced from seed from Atlixco, Mexico. Planted about 1904 on the grounds of EW Dickey, Hollywood, Ca. Difficult to spread. Fruit season Feb – June. The quality of the harvest is not promising. Creamy fruit with a characteristic aroma. Most of the varieties grown in California fall into the “Guatemalan” or “Mexican” group (or a hybrid of the two) while Florida grows mostly “West Indian”. This is done by weight as a sample of the ripe fruit is taken. First the fruit is weighed, cut open and the seed removed. The seed is weighed and information obtained as to its shape and whether the flesh adheres to the seed.
